Exchange Mailstore Database Monitoring and Automounting

Votes:

I have an Exchange 2007 server running on a VM. The mail storage databases are on a direct-access SAN partition.

Occasionally, when the VM migrates, it will loose the iSCSI SAN connection for a moment and the DBs will automatically dismount. The will not mount themselves again automatically and it sometimes goes unnoticed for awhile.

I would like to leverage my PRTG install to monitor individual Exchange DBs and, if possible, automount them if they're on-line. Something similar to how you can monitor and restart running services via WMI.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I assume that when de databases dismount, your Exchange Server cannot send and/or receive emails anymore. I that case the email round trip sensor could alert you. That of cause still does not auto mount the databases, but it’s a start…
