I am having some issues with voip calls, incoming long distance numbers have a delay of about 5 seconds, which leads to people talking over each other.

how can I test for latency using PRTG? what other test should I run?

Hello,

thank you very much for your KB-Post. Basic latency monitoring can be done with the Ping Sensors:

  • Ping Sensor
  • Ping Jitter Sensor

Beyond that, you could look into PRTGs VoIP / QoS - Sensors, which require a bit of hardware though, either Cisco Gear that supports IPSLA, or a Windows based host (with a PRTG Remote Probe on it) to run the QoS-Sensor against: VoIP and QoS Sensors

best regards.
