Cisco ASA: Missing Power & Temperature sensor

Votes:

0

Hello Support,

I tried to use SNMP to monitor our ASA5545. It shows CPU, memory and interface, all works well, but I couldn't find sensor for power supply and temperature. Could you please let me know how I can setup it?

Thanks, Frank

This confirms that the information is not available/reported by the device, the following troubleshooting steps can be taken:

  1. Restart the SNMP Agent or Device, in some cases this may change the behavior.
  2. Check whenever your device is compatible with the MIB(s) used by the sensor (CISCO-ENVMON-MIB and CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB)
  3. Check for firmware/software updates for the monitored device.
  4. Contact the device's vendor.

Hello Frank,
thank you for your post.

Please try the SNMP Cisco System Health Sensor. If that fails the device most likely does not provide the required information via SNMP.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, 'SNMP Cisco System Health Sensor' works for Cisco Router & Switch. But for ASA, it only shows the sensor for 'CPU' & 'Memory', didn't see the sensor for power and temp.

Thanks, Frank

Hello Frank,
thank you for your reply.

This is an indication that the ASA doesn't provide SNMP data for the other properties that the sensor can monitor, otherwise you would be able to deploy the sensor for those properties as well.

Hello Frank, thank you for your reply.

It looks like they are indeed available. Please contact-us via a support ticket and mention this thread, we'll need a different walk and performed with our SNMP Tester for further analysis.

Hello @all,

we are experiencing the same problem with different Cisco ASA models (5520/5512x/5545x etc.) running software version 9.2.x/9.5.x.

I'm wondering if there are any news from Frank's case. @Frank - have you been able to get in touch with Cisco in order to clarify the reason for the missing data?

Thank you,

Andre

Hello aheinl,
thank you for your post.

I'm afraid we haven't heard back, so we can't tell why the data is missing. I'm not sure whenever you've read this in my previous reply, but the 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1 table/column only contains "entity names", to find out if there are temperature readings available, you'll need to walk the following:

ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusTable1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3
entitySensorMIBObjects1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.91.1
