WMI alt account

We do not want to use the default administrator account for wmi access to a webserver that is NOT on our domain. The admin account does work for reading wmi values. I have created and alternate account and performed the tasks suggested on this knowledge base to allow it access to read WMI values but have had little luck. I have granted it access to the dcom, administrator, and perf mon groups. I have granted access to wmi / CIMV2 in the wmi control properties. Windows firewall is disabled. Even given rights in the com security in the component services. Is there a step by step guide or checklist to achieve this?

Both the server i am trying to monitor and the server hosting prtg are windows server 2008.

Did you find this article? https://www.paessler.com/knowledgebase/en/topic/203-how-can-i-monitor-wmi-sensors-if-the-target-machine-is-not-part-of-a-domain

and particularly this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa822854%28VS.85%29.aspx

I'm afraid we can't tell you more about this topic - the configuration of DCOM features a lot of possibilities to go wrong, unfortunately.

And a tip (if you don't do it already): please use our WMI Tester for connection trials on the same machine where the PRTG Probe is installed.

Kind regards, - Volker
