Monitor VMWare virtual guest

Hello, a challenge scenario.

Customer is using VMware infrastructure setup with vMotion etc for redundancies.

Each virtual guest is configured with certain parameters such as access rights, alert options etc, so they can allow end user to access/view their own individual guest utilization/performance status.

The probem is, the virtual guest can move to another physical guest anytime and pretty quickly, how do we know/detect this guest has been moved to another physical server? and can we still retain all the guest host setting (eg. access rights, alert options, historical data etc) after they've moved, so that when the end-user will see the same information, and the change (movement) is seamless to end users?

Thank you! Julia

Dear Julia,

the key for monitoring virtual machines with Vmotion is to add the Virtual Center Server as a device in PRTG, and then add the sensors for the virtual machines to this one.

best regards.
