Active Directory Replication Errors

Dear PRTG,

Our company use PRTG v8.4.2.2380. We did setup Active Directory Replication Sensor and it works, but it shows that we have some 22 errors (Domain controllers reported 22 errors). If look in log file of sensor then we see only that "0:The RPC server is unavailable. Name. server1"; "0:The RPC server is unavailable. Name. server2"....

Could you please say what this sensor do, what information it collect from AD and how? Does it collect info from Event Log file? Or it check sync between domains? Thank you in advance!

Best regards, Oscar

Hi Oscar

The Active Directory Replication Sensor first builds a list of Domain Controllers in your network and checks them one by one for replication errors. If the check fails for some reason, the error count is also increased. So in your case 22 Domain Controllers all fail the check, adding up to the 22 errors reported.

The "The RPC server is unavailable" error is a rather common error that tells you that the Remote Procedure Call (a link between, in this case, the PRTG probe and the Domain Controller) fails.

This site can give you some hints on how to resolve this problem.
