Can't seem to receive email from built-in SMTP Engine

No matter what we do, we can't seem to get the PRTG in-built email server to send us email. We use Microsoft Office Online for email and don't have an internal mail server. We don't want to setup an internal server just for PRTG.

We've tried everything and it's driving us crazy. We can't receive the test message, nor notifications that should be getting triggered by a state change. We've tried this with multiple email addresses and hostname settings, we've tried using our Microsoft Exchange Online accounts, Gmail and other third-party accounts, we've checked every conceivable firewall setting that could be blocking outbound SMTP traffic. It just don't make sense! We don't get any error message or notification of failure, just the email never shows up.

Any ideas what we're doing wrong? We love PRTG but we can't use it without email notifications.

Hello,

just to check you also do not see anything in the "Logs"->"System Events"->"Notifications" of PRTG?

best regards

Ah ha, yes I do have a message. It appears my Exchange online server is not accepting the mail from my IP address.

Yes, as unfortunately you can't forward the mail from within PRTG to this address, please try contacting Microsoft "manually".

OMG... "...what an opportunity this was...." Calling in to have Microsoft make the change is the only way this gets corrected. You have to be an Office365 administrator to make a support call.
