This article applies as of PRTG 22

Important notice: If you used CloudMade before, updating to PRTG 20.1.55 or later automatically changes this setting to Default (recommended). If you used Nokia Maps before, updating to PRTG 17.4.33 or later automatically changes this setting to HERE Maps. For more information, see Geo Maps Currently Not Working In PRTG.

Geographical maps providers

To view geographical maps that show the location of your monitored devices, PRTG supports several map providers. The PRTG web server requests geographical maps of your monitoring locations and shows them.

PRTG supports the following map providers. Some of them require an API key that can be requested on the providers' websites.

So I have the same question, but your answer doesn't seem to answer it. I'm looking for an opinion, or pros and cons of each service. Which services work better than others with PRTG? I went through the process of getting an API from Google and setting up Google Static Maps, once I did, I got this message:

Note: We recommend that you do not use Google Static Maps! If you use this option. Geo Maps will be shown with limited functionality. You need a Google Maps API v3 key to use Google Static Maps. Please check with Google's license terms first.

Why is it not recommended to use Google Static Maps? Is there a better service? I notice the default is recommended, but why? Is it just because Paessler created it or is it even a Paessler service? Just trying to see what the best direction would be to go for Geo Maps in PRTG.

Either use the default option or HERE Maps, they're the same and actually the only ones that don't require an API key :)
