Notification Email gets "Error sending "Email": Connection failed (ip address)"

Votes:

Exactly three minutes after trying to tests an e-mail notification, I get an entry in the log that says "Error sending "Email": Connection failed (ip address)"

I have configured the SMTP Relay Server and on port 25. I have other applications relaying through my Exchange server.

I'm using PRTG Network Monitor 9.2.1.2279. I have the ten sensor freeware version.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
this sounds like a security issue for me. The error message indicates that the machine where PRTG is installed is simply not allowed to relay mails through your SMTP Server. Are you using any white- or blacklisting in your Excange server?
Best regards

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Earlier, I had disabled McAfee On-Access Scanner (essentially the virus agent) and I was still getting "connection failed." Today I also disabled "Access Protection" which apparently is their port/program blocker. Turning this off fixed the problem. Thank you!
