I'm getting the message 'The virtual machine seems to be running but no performance statistics can be retrieved. Check the Performance-tab on your virtual host or vCenter as well as http://www.paessler.com/knowledgebase/en/topic/44903 for further Information.' and 'The host seems to be running but no performance statistics can be retrieved. Check the Performance-tab ...' on some of my vmware-performance sensors. What does it mean and how can I fix it?

Under some circumstances it can happen, that the vpxa-agent on a VMWare-host may stop working. As a result you will get a 'No Data available'-message on the performance-tab for a dedicated host or virtual machine in the vSphere-client when connected to a vCenter-Server but well looking values when connecting to the Host directly.

In most cases it is enough to restart the vpxa-service on the host. For this you need to login to the host using vSphere-Client and follow the steps in the screenshot:

Restart vpxa-service on ESXi 5.1
