Is there any way to set up a sensor for BGP session monitoring? And alarm on a session failure/disconnect?

I read the article, and it mentions the OID and status. I assume I need to set up a custom sensor for that, correct? And the article indicates that you are working on a tool for that, but I was wondering about the progress on the tool/sensor as well.

That is correct, you would need to use a SNMP Custom sensor. As regards the development of a dedicated BGP sensor: I'm afraid I cannot tell you when the same would be available. It's still in the pipeline, but it is highly unlikely it will be available any time soon. Sorry.
