Auto-update doesn't work

Votes:

0

I use PRTG version 13.3.4.2557 x64.

"Automatically download the latest version and alert the admin" is set in System Administration - System & Website - PRTG Software Auto-Update

Server has direct internet connection to Internet.

Although couple of new versions are available on paessler.com, my server doesn't offer the update to new version in Setup - Software Auto Update.

Is there a way how to discover why auto update doesn't work?

I downloaded new installation file from Paessler's Service Center. Should I run it manually?

When we release updates, we don't always release them to everyone at the same time since this would require large amounts of resources to support. If the update check doesn't find the newest version you can download the installer like you have and install it over the current installation. All the config and data will be retained when doing the update this way.

OK. Thanks Greg. Anyway, is there a log file on server where can I find why update check is not successful? I think that 2 months (and 3 missed releases) are enough time to be notified about new version.

The PRTG Core Server Log shows all the messages related to updates and you should also be able to see messages about the updates in the log in the web console under the Root group log. The PRTG Server Update log will also contain info about the update as well. Lastly, we did change our update servers relatively recently so you may also want to flush your DNS on the PRTG server as well.

I've found those entries in PRTG Core Server Log (1).log:

15.9.2013 23:59:22 Updatecheck: For channel stable 15.9.2013 23:59:22 Autoupdate: Get download url for channel stable 15.9.2013 23:59:23 Autoupdate: Response 200,90,13.1.1.1266 15.9.2013 23:59:23 Updatecheck: Online=13.3.4.2526, LastCheck=13.3.4.2526, CurrentVersion=13.3.4.2557 15.9.2013 23:59:24 Configuration CRC-RS 66139734b9224c38b231369937238636-0

This repeats every day at the same time.

I'm not sure what those logs means but the string "13.1.1.1266" in Response looks strange.

I'm showing the same version in my update check as well on the stable that I am running since this also hasn't had the update check triggered yet. It's quite possible that your installation hasn't received the new version in the update check and this can sometimes take a few months before being triggered.

That version number is incorrect there but that's a bug in the system only related to the version number being displayed and doesn't have anything to do with the stable version updatecheck.

9/12/2013 11:31:17 AM Updatecheck: For channel stable
9/12/2013 11:31:17 AM Autoupdate: Get download url for channel stable
9/12/2013 11:31:18 AM Autoupdate: Response 200,4711,13.1.1.1266
9/12/2013 11:31:18 AM Updatecheck: Online=13.3.4.2526, LastCheck=, CurrentVersion=13.3.6.2997

The thing of note here is the line Online=13.3.4.2526, which is what the update server is currently reporting.
