DNS Sensor for SOA

Votes:

1

I have DNS sensor configured to check my SOA record. I want to know if the serial number changes. So I put the current serial number in the "Check Results" field. The sensor was 'OK' for for I did that and "Record not found (code: PE112)" after I did it.

I found this odd, so I set it to "Write DNS result to disk". After checking the log file all it shows is one of the NS records. It looks like PRTG is not handling this sensor correctly. I am currently on version 13.4.7.3531.

Hello,

thank you very much for your KB-Post. I'm afraid the DNS-Sensor only checks the "Primary Master" for the entered "Domain" with the SOA-Check. Other properties of the SOA-Record are not checked.

best regards.

Can you please add this to the wishlist, to be able to monitor any/all of the content in a DNS record.

Thanks

Would be great to be able to extract the current serial number of the zone.

Haven't looked into it, but if a Factory Sensor could then tell if a serial # is different between a Master and Slave zone, it could do synchronization alerting...

I'm afraid the serial number cannot be extracted, nor can the Factory Sensor perform string operations (which this would be). Sorry.
