Holiday Schedule

Votes:

0

It would be great to see the ability to create a holiday schedule.

This type of schedule should allow a year based date selection. Including the 4th Thursday of November and also January 1st.

This type of schedule should be able to be used to modify other existing schedules. By this I mean for the 'Weekdays' schedule you would have the option to include, or exclude a holiday schedule.

If it was allowed to have multiple holiday schedules then it could be used for both business closed days, but also to allow a user to select a schedule for their vacation days.

Thanks

Dear Jeff,

thank you very much for your KB-Post! We will put this on the wishlist for a future version of PRTG, but to be honest, I wouldn't expect it within the next 12 months, as it is quite a complex task to implement internally. Please bear with us. Your vote was of course counted!

If I may, please feel free to read a blog post from our CEO How We Rate Your Feature Requests: How We Rate Your Feature Requests.

Let's also see if other users agree on this request as well!

best regards.

Any progress on this feature request? I agree with the OP that this would be a nice feature to have.

Dear Jon

Thank you for your input. We recognize the demand for this feature, but have no plans to implement it in the foreseeable future.

Please allow me to elaborate. A holiday schedule would be nice indeed. However it would have to be configurable to allow different schedules for different regions, requiring a custom user interface. Then we would have to add a layer on our scheduling mechanism. And we would have to make clear through the interface, which days are excluded for what reason (standard schedule or holiday schedule.)

In the end, this new schedule type would benefit only a small portion of PRTG users as many of them monitor their network all year and create reports for every day of the week.

We rather want to focus on features which helps large portions of the PRTG user base. But that is not our only consideration.

In general, we try to avoid having new options in the interface and look to reduce complexity instead, even if we have to sacrifice some flexibility. We also try to implement general solutions. This means, if we some day should rewrite our schedule mechanism, we would try to make it more customizable instead of implementing a holiday schedule on top of standard schedules.

Also showing interest in this feature. We currently use two monitoring systems - PRTG is by far the best as far as data collection, but its notification ability is really hampered by the lack of holiday schedules. We have many metrics that we want to be alerted for during business hours, but without holiday support, PRTG would alert us needlessly during a weekday holiday.

Dear AndrewB

Your input is noted.

For the time being, a manually set maintenance window is still the only option to avoid such weekday holiday alarms. We have a lot of features planned for the interface, but a holiday schedule is currently not on any shortlist.
