Replace hostname by ip

within auto discovery prtg uses hostnames for monitoring.

having an address range of 250 devices and half of them to change their hostnames, what will be best practice for keeping the device's history and adjusting their names (automatically)?

i first thought about replacing the names by the ip address, for we use m-dhcp. but this a lot of stupid copy-and-paste work.

or is it possible to auto discover, only using ip addresses for monitoring afterwards?

all ideas are highly welcome :)

dns hostname ip

Hi,
when creating a new auto-discovery group you are able to set up the Name Resolution in the Group Settings. It is possible to use IP addresses there.
If you are in need of reconfiguring already existing devices you either might use the PRTG API or you might do it by hand.
Best regards
