Ethernet vs ATM interface

I have added SNMP traffic sensor to monitor bandwidth of my wireless router. The sensor showed two interfaces, ATM and Ethernet with both 10 Mbps of speed. What is the difference between the two? Do they collect and show the same data graph? (My pc with prtg installed is directly connected to the router via Ethernet)

Hello,

PRTG scans your available interfaces and regarding tothis article, the packets are converted to a fixed size on that interface. This is why the traffic on both interfaces is equal.

I see.. thanks, but why PRTG did not recognize my wireless interface? SNMP traffic sensor monitors each device interface. I would like to monitor only the bandwidth via wifi. Is there something wrong with my router? I have 24/7 wifi at office. pls. help..

It's not that easy to monitor the bandwidth of a wireless network. Some routers provide an additional virtual interface for the WLAN traffic, but as you already discovered the interfaces of your router and the virtual interface does not appear, you cannot get this information from the device directly.

Thanks sir. What if I will setup a local server and prtg in a single pc via Ethernet in the router and allow wireless clients to access only the local server for a certain file (unable to use Internet, etc). Can I say that the "traffic In" in the Ethernet interface (from wireless clients to the pc) is the bandwidth for wifi?

Hello,

If the Access Point is directly connected to the NIC or if you use a WiFi card in your computer, this will be your WiFi traffic for the clients, yes.
