duplicating switch port sensors after adding port description in switch

After adding a port description to a switch, PRTG picks up the change but creates a new sensor. For example, if I change Fa1/0/12 port description to "Willy Wonka device", then in PRTG I have Fa1/0/12 FastEthernet1/0/12 and a NEW Fa1/0/12 Willy Wonka Device sensor. How can I prevent this, and keep the sensor Fa1/0/12 so that I can retain historical data? Shouldn't it simply update the information in PRTG without creating a new sensor?

If this is happening, it likely means that the ifIndex is changing when you are chaning the name of the interfaces. If this is happening, you should be able to go into the device settings and change the way that the port is identified. Please try and change this to something that is not changing when you are updating the name.
