Pointing a remote probe to a different PRTG Server

Votes:

0

I have inherited a set up where the company has two different PRTG Servers. They both have loads of data and loads of devices and sensors and loads of remote sensors.

I want to consolidate everything on one server.

Is there an easy way of doing this?

One is PRTG Network Monitor 8.2.0.1898 and the other is PRTG Network Monitor 14.2.10.2114 x64

Kind regards, Aqueeb.

Dear aqueeb

Two PRTG servers cannot be merged into one. If you want to monitor the devices covered by one of your PRTG servers, the according devices and sensors must be created on the new server.

You cannot connect an existing probe to a new server because the sensor configuration is always part of the server configuration.

Using PRTG's auto-discovery feature, the bulk of the work can be automated. Once the auto-discovery is complete, you can check the devices / sensors created and perform manual changes. Using the template feature, you can also create templates from devices and use those templates to re-create the device on a different server. However, existing historic data will not be put on the new server.

Is it possible to use a template created on version 8 to be used on version 14?

Dear aqueeb

Some sensors (old VMWare sensors) are no longer supported in PRTG 15 because they were replaced with completely new sensors. Beside this, templates from PRTG 8 can still be read and used by PRTG 15.

And can they still be read and used by PRTG 14?

Dear aqueeb

Yes. If you still have active maintenance, I recommend to update to PRTG 15 because we offer some sensor improvements.

The underlying architecture of PRTG is the same since version 7, meaning templates are compatible if you update.
