Auto-Discovery creates duplicate entries

I have created a Auto-Discovery Group [IP and subnet (IPv4) & Use DNS / WMI / SNMP names (recommended) & Skip auto-discovery for known devices/IPs (recommended)] with template "Generic Device (PING only)" The idea is that this Auto-Discovery Group "catches" new devices, and then the owner of the device moves it to a different group on the same probe, and then runs the designated template for setting up sensors on that specific device (exchange, lync, file etc) The problem is that the device is recreated in the "Auto-Discovery Group - PING only" when it runs at 00:00, and then i have a duplicate entry :-( I have checked, and the "Device Name" and the "IPv4 Address/DNS Name" values are 100% the same on the duplicate devices. Both records are complete DNS names.

Hi,

Can you please check if the Skip auto-discovery for known devices/IPs (recommended) option is marked in the settings of the device? Do those DNS names change?

Best regards, Felix

Like described in the case - " Skip auto-discovery for known devices/IPs (recommended)" is checked, DNS names do not change - i described in the case "I have checked, and the "Device Name" and the "IPv4 Address/DNS Name" values are 100% the same on the duplicate devices. Both records are complete DNS names."

Hi,

We will require some additional log files to see what's happening in your installation. Kindly forward the Auto Discovery Debug Log (1).log file from the default log directory C:\ProgramData\Paessler\PRTG Network Monitor\Logs (System) to [email protected]

Please do also provide the IDs of two exact same devices. The ID is listed in the URL of the web browser if you click on the the device within PRTG.

Best regards, Felix
