Restore configuration from PRTG Configuration.dat backup partially

Good Morning KB,

we have a problem with a deleted Group in our PRTG installation. Unfortunately, we have noticed 2 weeks after the delete. Since then, much devices and sensors have been added. For this reason we can not restore the complete PRTG configuration.dat. Is there a way to restore an patial devicetree from the RTG configuration.dat? This may be the most effective way.

Another consideration was that we restore configuration.dat RTG in a VM. Is there in this case the possibility to export a part of the device tree and import it into our production environment again?

The last and most strenuous option would be the manual transfer from the VM to the production environment.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi,
I'm afraid neither exporting nor importing a partial device tree tree in/from the configuration file is possible on an officially supported way. However, you could edit the configuration file as it is a XML file. (We won't recommend the same and there is absolutely no support for this.)
Best regards

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. We have restored the backup in a VM and have taken over the missing devices by hand.

Because the XML file is quite large I dont wanted to make any changes in the file. Maybe that is a backup feature for future versions PRTG.

Best regards
