PRTG Memroy Limit Ceiling

Hi,

We are having some performance issues with our PRTG Installation, and quick background.

Machine has 24 Gb RAM, SSD Storage for the Database etc, 2x Xeon E5-2640.

From what I can tell PRTG will only use 8 Gb of RAM and no more, monitoring the PRTGServer instance through resource monitor all day, hit this ceiling and will not go any higher. Is there the possibility to open up the gates and allow PRTG to utilize all avaliable RAM?

Thanks

Brendon

Hi Brendon,

One thing to consider is that even on a 64bit OS PRTG's Probe service (the part that's performing sensor queries) is always a 32bit process, so this one's limited on how much RAM it can address. All in all PRTG normally does not require that much RAM. There's a lot of multithreading happening in the background, but there are also limitations from the operating system's end on how many threads can run at the same time, no matter how much free resources might be available hardware-wise.

Regarding performance there are several other factors to consider, beginning at how many sensors do you have running, of which type and what intervals are being used. Furthermore how many devices and groups exist in the tree, how many users are logged in simultaneously, are background processes running like reports, similar sensor detection, automatic device discoveries etc.

For an individual analysis, please send us a Support Bundle to have a look at what could be optimized.

Kind regards.
