Hi, I have an old PRTG station that is running an old version of PRTG (v8.1). Is possible to upgrade it without problem?

Otherwise, I would like to change the hardware, so I would like to install a brand new pc with the latest version of PRTG and I would like to know If is possible to migrate data from the old machine to the new.

Thanks Luca

Hi Luca,

Thank you very much for your support ticket. Updating such an old PRTG installation is very tricky, and may not be successful. So I would definitely leave the old installation "untouched".
I would perform one try to migrate only the configuration file and historic data to the new machine. So:

  1. Install a new PRTG version on a new machine.
  2. Stop all PRTG services, both on old and new installation
  3. Only copy the "PRTG Configuration.dat" and "Monitoring Database"-subfolder from the old to the new installation (overwriting the according objects on the new installatio).
  4. Restart all PRTG Services.

If this then does not bring up the new PRTG installation successfully, with all objects and data from the old one, please create a new setup from scratch with assistance of Auto-Discovery, etc..

best regards.

Hi, thank you very much for the reply. It works perfectly, yes, some sensors to adjust but everything goes well!
