Traceroute sensor hop count results have decimal places

I'm trying to figure out why the hop count results are showing decimal place graph points. For example I have a device that has a normal hopcount of 5 hops but every once in a while the graph will show a change to 5.20 hops. That doesn't make sense unless it's showing averages. Even that would make sense. Why show hop counts that are intergers with decimal places

Dear Jeff

Depending on the time covered by a graph, averages are used. Given the circumstances (not enough pixels to show every data point, so averages are rendered) we feel this solution is the overall best.
