I'm trying to set up an SNMP Trap Receiver sensor for my Netapp. I am using the default port 162 and after creating the sensor I get this error:

Could not open port 162 (code: PE245)(Could not bind socket. Address and port are already in use.)

I can confirm that the Netapp is reachable from the PRTG machine and that the firewall is disabled.

Hi, the problem can be in some OS services, that already using this port. See if Windows OS on PRTG server "SNMP Trap" service is running. Your should stop this service.

Hi there,

What Oleg mentioned is a good start. What the error basically say is that another process is holding port 162. For more details run this command in a command prompt on the machine where PRTG (or Remote Probe if applicable) is running on:

netstat -ano|find ":162"

This will show you which process id is currently using this port. You can check then in Taskmanager by adding the Process ID/PID column to see which process this is.

Kind regards,

Erhard
