Monitoring EMC Isilon storages with PRTG
Out of the box, PRTG includes a broad variety of sensors for storage systems and other hardware. For other device types, like EMC Isilon storage systems, you have the possibility to create custom sensors. For example, if the device that you want to monitor supports SNMP, you can try to get an MIB file from the vendor, convert it with MIB Importer into an .oidlib file for PRTG, and use it with the SNMP Library sensor.

SNMP Library sensor for EMC Isilon
One of our customers created two OIDlibs and one lookup file to monitor EMC Isilon storages with the SNMP Library sensor. We are thankful that he provided us with the files to share them with all PRTG customers.
Follow the steps below to set up your EMC Isilon monitoring.
Steps to take
- Download EMC Isilon OIDlibs.zip.
- Copy both .oidlib files into the \snmplibs subfolder of the PRTG data directory.
- EMC_Isilon_Cluster_2016_08_18.oidlib contains the OIDs for the cluster (SmartConnect IP).
- EMC_Isilon_Nodes_2016_08_18.oidlib contains the OIDs for the single nodes (Node-IP).
- Copy the lookup file oid.isilon-mib.multiple.clusterhealth-nodehealth.ovl into the \lookups subfolder of the
PRTG data directory. This is the lookup definition for the health status of the cluster and all nodes.
- Reload the lookup files in the PRTG web interface.
- From the main menu bar, select Setup | System Administration | Administrative Tools.
- In section Load Lookups and File Lists, click Go!.
- Add SNMP Library sensors using the OIDlibs you have downloaded and extracted.
Notes
EMC Isilon OIDlibs.zip has been provided by PRTG user Steffen Ille. He also did some improvements in comparison to the original MIB for a better monitoring experience, and successfully tested the OIDlibs on Isilon OneFS 7.2.x and PRTG 16.3.25.
Thank you very much for your efforts, Steffen Ille! See also this case study (German only) if you are interested in where and how these OID libraries are used in production.
Note that we cannot provide any support for these custom OIDlibs, nor can we guarantee that they work as expected.
