Update Sensor Name when Interface Description Changes

Hello,

Is it possible so that when an interface Description changes on a Cisco Switch, it also updates the sensor name?

I'm finding atm that if the description changes, and I run a rescan on that device, it creates a new sensor.

What then happens to all the historical information? is that lost if I delete the sensor?

Hi there,

Based on our experience with Cisco's devices, these are the recommended settings/changes to have correct interface identification, naming and name updates when the interface is renamed:

Port Name Template[ifName] [1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18] [ifsensor]
Port Name UpdateAutomatic sensor name update if name changes in device
Port IdentificationUse ifName
  • 3. After saving these settings, the new name template and port name update behavior will apply starting the following scan, but you're strongly advised to remove and re-deploy your SNMP Traffic sensors to also apply the new Port Identification setting.

Switches cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders

When monitoring switches cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders, you can use the configuration below to display the configured VLAN number in the interface and bandwidth.

Port Name Template[ifname] - [ifspeed] - VLAN [1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.68.1.2.2.1.2] - [1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18]

Obs. In some series of cisco switches the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.68.1.2.2.1.2 does not work on the interfaces configured with trunking (IEEE 802.1Q).

this would be a question for Cisco.
