Is there a way to define custom, recurring maintenance windows?

Votes:

2

I have already tried the maintenance windows for probes, groups, devices and sensors in PRTG, but I'd still like to be a bit more flexible. For example, I would like to adapt the maintenance window to only the first Monday of every month or only every second weekend. Is there a way to create such custom windows in PRTG?

This article applies to PRTG Network Monitor 17.2.31 or later

DEPRECATED as of February 13th, 2019

Please note that this project is no longer supported or maintained.

Define Custom Recurring Maintenance Windows

Yes, there is! For further customizing of scheduling in PRTG, we wrote a application and a documentation for you. Please check out the PRTG Scheduler on GitHub.

For a set of FAQ, please check out the Closed Issues on GitHub.

With the help of the scheduling functionality in PRTG, you can automatically pause monitoring for single or more sensors, devices, groups, or probes, for example, to avoid false alarms during maintenance, updates, or backup.

The maintenance window helps you to cover one-time maintenance periods. You can use our predefined schedules or add your own schedules for recurring maintenance.

Any chance this can be added into core functionality of the system. it looks like it said it was no longer being developed and it's from 2017.

Most likely not. That's why I developed that. It was rather difficult to maintain, though :(

It's unfortunately deprecated. However, it should still work. Make sure to check the Wiki and the FAQ Page.

@Stephan

Sorry to necro a really old post. If you don't want to reply on this one, you can ignore and I'll carry on reading the code.

At a really high level, did the this tool work by (or was it planned to work like) sending out a one time maintenance window to groups / devices / sensors.

I'm probably going to have to write something similar, so want to work from your base idea.

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

It is intentended to work for Groups, Devices, and Sensors, yes - if the object has a maintenance configuration [in its comments], it will be paused accordingly. It was actually intended to also work for Contacts and their notification contacts to allow for a dynamic on-call schedule :) Perhaps one day I can continue to work on this.

Best,
Stephan, Technical Support Team
