Recommended scan interval for dependencies - parent sensor

Votes:

Running v17.3.32.2339.

Original configuration was setup manually.

I'm now trying to set device PING sensors as the parent for the device's other sensors to prevent multiple 'down' alerts per device. What are the ramifications of leaving the scheduled scan interval for the parent (PING) sensor unchanged i.e. the same as the other device sensors? Should the ping sensor be scanned at shorter intervals?

I would recommend using a shorter interval like 30 seconds for the Ping senso. You can also configure a delay for the Ping dependency, since just because a device is reachable by Ping again does not mean that all services are also back up and running, that's why the delay is for. That way the paused sensors will be delayed until resumed when Ping works again.

Kind regards,

Erhard
