How do I enable the CIM interface on VMware ESXi 6.5?

Votes:

I want to monitor hardware information of my ESXi server using WBEM. To access ESXi 6.5 via WBEM, I need to activate the CIM server on the ESXi host.

Can you please provide instructions on how to activate CIM on ESXi 6.5 and later?

cim-server esxi prtg vmware vmware-esxi vmware-hardware vmware-monitoring vsphere wbem

This article applies as of PRTG 22

Enabling the CIM module on VMware ESXi 6.5 or later

PRTG provides two technologies to monitor VMware host hardware, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM). If you want to use the WBEM approach, you need to add the VMware Host Hardware (WBEM) sensor to your VMware ESXi server.

Monitoring via WBEM requires activated CIM interface

Accessing the target system and retrieving monitoring data via WBEM requires the Common Information Model (CIM) interface to be enabled on the ESXi host. On ESXi version 6.5 and later, CIM is disabled by default, so you must manually enable the module. You need CIM to add and use the VMware Host Hardware (WBEM) sensor.
