Fortigate firmware update broke SNMP

Votes:

ever since 5.4.5 update we can't receive any snmp traps or counters on interfaces. I've ran the importer with the Fortinet OIDs that changed, but all we can receive is Uptime, Ping, and SNMP trap receiver. Nothing on interfaces or bandwidth.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hello Nick,
thank you for your KB-Post.

We're no aware of any issues, although I've noticed that we had some customers report issues with Traffic Sensors on Fortigate devices, in these cases the ifDescr(1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.2) was empty/unset for all interfaces, which caused issues. I encourage you to simultaneously report any issues after a firmware update to the device's vendor too.

To troubleshoot this we need to have a look at the SNMP results provided by your device. Please begin by saving the text from the code snippet below into a file called "script.txt":

--------
Interfaces Table Query
--------
hrSystemUptime
walk=1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1
--------
MIB-2 System
walk=1.3.6.1.2.1.1
--------
Sensor Specific Queries
----
ifTable(32bit)
walk=1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2
----
ifXTable(64bit)
walk=1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1
----

Now go ahead and download our latest SNMP Tester, run it on the PRTG Host (or host of the Remote Probe), and perform an "Scan Script" against the target device providing the previously created script.txt file as parameter. Kindly configure the Device's IP/Port and SNMP Credentials accordingly.

The test could take several minutes to run and will become unresponsive during the query, this is normal. Please either upload the resulting logfile(Save Log to File) from the Tester or copy/paste the text into your reply here.

Best Regards,
