Required Authorizations for vmware sensor

I want to setup multiple vCenter devices for the same vCenter server using different credentials that are only allow to see a part of the whole vCenter setup (e.g. one sensor for european VMs and one for asian VMs).

I arranged my vCenter in folders below the vCenter root: EMEA and APAC, I assigned Admin rights to EMEA to the EMEA admin. I want to add a vCenter device to PRTG logging into ESX as EMEA Admin, but I get errors "No channel" (Permission to perform this operation was denied.)

It seems I did not define the authorizations in vmware correctly: With my main admin I can add a device which shows all (> 500) vCenter sensors, with a "subadmin" I get the error messages on VMs and host. What do I have to add to ESX to be able to monitor only a part of the vCenter?

esx no-channel vcenter vmware

Hi there,

Usually, a user with read-only right should be enough to poll the data, but we always recommend to use a user with admin-rights to avoid failures related to insufficient user-rights. PRTG supports ESX/VSphere from version 5.0 and above, and the permission should be the same as of version 5 and above.

Best regards.
