We are running a 2 Node Cluster. Master is Windows Server 2012r2, Failovernode Windows Server 2016. We want to change Master to Windows Server 2016 also. What is the best solution? We don`t want to inplace upgrade OS!

failover-cluster upgrade windows-server

Hi Werner,

First, please shutdown all PRTG related services of both cluster node.

Afterwards, please proceed with the following steps:
1) Deactivate the license on your Master Node (Step 1a: Migration Guide)

2) Shutdown all PRTG related services on both, the master and the failover node

3) Now, please backup the following folders of the master node:
- PRTG Datafolder In the PRTG Administration Tool choose the Core Server tab and see section Local Storage of Data Files and Monitoring Database (C:\ProgramData\Paessler\PRTG Network Monitor)
- PRTG Program Folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\PRTG Network Monitor)

4) On the new machine, please use the "currently installed version" installer, of your backup. Please find it in the subfolder \Program Files (x86)\PRTG Network Monitor\PRTG Installer Archive and install PRTG

5) Shutdown again all services on the master node and copy the backup from Step 3) over the existing installation and check the settings in the PRTG Administration Tool

7) Startup all PRTG services. Start with the master node and proceed with the failover node, afterwards

If you have any further questions, we're glad to help.

Kind regards
