Can a service account be used for Windows monitoring?

Votes:

We are wondering if we can use a Windows Service Account to collect sensor data. We are hoping to place this service account (no password) in the Administrators Group locally on devices then have PRTG use this to collect WMI data. Or is the password field enforced in PRTG?

We tested and it looks like it is possible on individual devices but not at the Root level or Local Probe level. Can you confirm? Is there any plans to enable the use of service accounts?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for the KB-Post. Currently there are no plans to support service level accounts for Windows Monitoring in PRTG. If it works for you on device level already, maybe the Mulit-Edit will help to quickly set it on several devices at once.

best regards.
