Want to provide User Experience Monitoring using PRTG by monitoring Wi-Fi signal Quality on laptops.

We have customers using PRTG. There is a growing tendency to use SFB, Skype For Business. Some of these customers want us to help them monitor user experience by monitoring the following parameters on user Windows laptops and desk tops:

1. Connected or not.

2. If connected Wi-Fi RSSI, Packet Drops and Jitter.

3. Monitoring Skype connection itself.

SFB is now trending to become a business critical application for valid reasons for communication and co-ordination meeting within, with customers and project organization globally. User experience here is very critical.

While MS provides a dashboard that is more of a problem analysis dashboard, there is a felt need to monitor all aspects that provide dependency to Skype from within the organization. While PRTG helps monitoring links, switches, firewalls and also Access Points the real monitoring can happen only when End User Experience dependency parameters are captured. Not sure if WMI parameters can support this kind monitoring. It will help to have PRTG providing these capabilities or suggest a way of enabling this important requirement.

Dear Shankar,

since there are no performance counters or WMI classes with Skype metrics, direct monitoring would be quite difficult. This is also not the direction we want to focus on with PRTG. While some applications can be monitored, we envision PRTG a traditional network monitor which reports on the status of network devices.
