WMI Free Disk Space Sensor not working as expected when added to Template

Hi There, we are in the process of setting up PRTG across our network and to automate the process we would like to use autodiscover and templates, everything else works fine when we add the IP ranges and other sensors but when we use the WMI Disk Free sensor it will show different drives than that which is physically on the device being added. It will work perfectly if we delete that sensor and add manually, just not with a template. Are we doing something wrong or is it a limitation or bug caused when there is a disparity between the number of HDD's on the device the template was created on and the device it is then applied to? Thank You

Hi Eddy,

The Free Disk Space sensor is a sensor that does a so called metascan when being added to a device in order to see what disks are actually available on the target host. Windows uses GUIDs to identify its drives and they're different from system to system. If we'd store these within the template, the sensors would not work at all, since the GUID would simply not be there on a different host.

That's why we always do a metascan and add all drives found via the same - no way around that :)
