Monitoring Disk Space C:\ on Office Workstations only when they are online

Votes:

Hello @all,

we want to monitor 300 workstations (windows 7/10) in our offices - but only when they are online. If the workstation is not online, we DO NOT want to receive an error or an email notification. The check interval would be every few hours when the workstation is online - or 1x per day. Is the workstation online and the sensor detects a full memory on C:\ then the status warning would be enough.

We are working in a 24/7 business but the workstations are randomly online - depending on the shift of the employee.

How can we best implement this?

Thank you and best regards

Hi there,

The best way would be to add all Workstations to PRTG with a Ping Sensor and Disk Space Sensor with disabled Error Limits. To do this perform the following steps:

  1. Add a new Workstation to PRTG
  2. Add a Ping Sensor via an Auto Discovery with the "Ping Only"-Template to the device and enable the "Show "Down (Acknowledged)" status on error"-option in the sensor settings
  3. Set the Scanning Interval to 5-10 Minutes for the Ping Sensor
  4. Afterwards add a new Disk Free Sensor for "C:\"
  5. Clear the "Lower Error Limit"-field in the sensor settings
  6. Set the Scanning interval to "1 hour" or even longer (Scanning Intervals)
  7. Create a new Device Template from this device to use it in the further Auto-Discoveries for all Workstations

Best regards.
