Are Windows Device CALs required for monitoring via SNMP or WMI?

Votes:

One of our service providers would like to set up a Windows Monitoring System, in which the network devices (switches and AP's) are monitored via SNMP. This raises the question of whether in this case a Windows CAL would be necessary for each network device.

Thanks

Hello there,

For monitoring Windows systems, device CALs might be relevant, though I would recommend to ask directly at Microsoft for your individual needs, since this seems to change like every year. In some "licensing constellations" user CALs might be sufficient as well. For non-Windows systems Windows device CALs do not matter.

Kind regards,

Erhard
