Memory consumption sensor reading incorrect data

Hello folks. I've been searching for a workaround for this problem but notihng seems to be working out.

We're facing trouble on ESXi sensor on our VMs.

PRTG is showing that RAM usage is above limit and my total amount of memory is less than installed.

I'm attaching these screens to clarify our issue.

Hi there,

There are two channels, Memory Active and Memory Consumed. The Memory Active channel shows how much memory is currently used by the Guest System, the Memory Consumed shows how much Memory is allocated from the ESXI Host - so basically what the VM could use and is currently assigned. See also:

Best regards.

I'm not sure if I got it right. So, memory active is also "wrongly" represented on PRTG over the guest system because PRTG reads the VMware hypervisor metric, is that it?

Hi there,

PRTG gets the data directly from your VSphere or ESXI Server. There is not much checking in the background. When the ESXI or VCenter offer false values, then this might be a question for VMware instead.

Best regards.

Hi there,

Then this is still a question for VMware. As mentioned, PRTG just gets the data from the device and calculates it to a different unit. We have several cases where the management interface that is queried offered different information as the VSphere Client.

Best regards.
