No such instance (SNMP error # 223) reading ospf, nx-os within vrf-lite instance

Hello Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the following issue. I am adding my nx-os switch with vrf-lite config to prtg. The main goal is to read the ospf if states. Now i have added to PRTG the following mibs:

CISCO-CONTEXT-MAPPING-MIB.my CISCO-SMI.my CISCO-TC.my OSPF-MIB.my

PRTG has been reloaded while this is recommended by Paessler. But no change. I have made on the switch community-maps so i can read within the VRF. Everything looks good. I can read the ospf if states of the switch when i add a new sensor (library then select the ospf.mib). However when PRTG is getting the information it keeps diplaying: No such instance (SNMP error # 223).

Then i opened up PAESSLER SNMP TESTER 5.2.3 and fired a snmp WALK of OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7 the results are displayed 14-12-2018 7:28:04 (1757 ms) : 1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7.1.12.*.*.*.*.0 = "6" [ASN_INTEGER] So it displays the value i am looking for. However when i want to get a single get it will not display any information:

1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7.1.12.*.*.*.*.0

----------------------- New Test -----------------------
Paessler SNMP Tester 5.2.3 Computername: * Interface: *
14-12-2018 7:46:39 (19 ms) : Device: *
14-12-2018 7:46:39 (27 ms) : SNMP V2c
14-12-2018 7:46:39 (35 ms) : Custom OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7.1.12.*.*.*.*.0
14-12-2018 7:46:39 (109 ms) : SNMP Datatype: SNMP_EXCEPTION_NOSUCHINSTANCE
14-12-2018 7:46:39 (117 ms) : -------
14-12-2018 7:46:40 (124 ms) : Value: 223 (No such instance (SNMP error # 223))
14-12-2018 7:46:40 (132 ms) : Done

The rare part is that when I add the sensor from the library OSPF i reads the switch and i am able to add the ospf if state sensor. But PRTG keeps displaying a error when it needs to read the information from the nx-os switch.

I hope anyone has a clou of what is happening.

Thanks in advance.

kind regards.

Loek

Hi Loek,

When you get "no such instance" when querying the complete single oid, run again a walk on 1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7 to verify it still reports the same oid back. It's possible that the oid may have changed for what reason ever. Compare the new walk with the walk before to see what changed.

Kind regards,

Erhard

Hi Erhard,

it still displays the same results.

snmp walk: 14-12-2018 8:38:01 (1681 ms) : 1.3.6.1.2.1.14.7.1.12.*.*.*.*.0 = "6" [ASN_INTEGER]

Hi Loek,

Run the walk again and after that the custom oid query, save the result without any masking of oids and send it to me ([email protected]). Mention this thread in the email, then it will be assigned to me to further work on the case.

Thank you & kind regards,

Erhard
