Special Requirements for Monitoring Log Files

Votes:

We are currently evaluating PRTG as a monitoring solution for ourselves and our clients. We encountered a requirement that could be met with our current monitoring solution NIMSOFT. It is about the following: The content of a log file without regular roll over is searched for certain strings and regular expressions. If there is a hit, an alarm is triggered. The user can confirm this alarm. In PRTG he clicks on "Acknowledge". The previously found string could appear again in the log file. No new alarm is triggered. However, if another searched string or another regular expression matching the criteria is found in the log file, an alarm should be triggered again. So we are looking for the possibility to search for different character strings and regular expressions in one log file and combine them in one sensor. On the other hand, we would like to sum up identical alarms. The LogReader.exe did not lead us to the desired result.

I would be happy if someone could give us some hints on whether and how this can be implemented with PRTG.

Hi there,

Unfortunately this process cannot be pictured in PRTG.
