Extend the creation of a critical alert on internet traffic sensor.

I would like to know if there is a possibility that the critical alert could be generated only if internet traffic reaches the "XX" Mb / s limit and if internet traffic remains high for more than "XX" minutes. Is there this possibility of configuration in PRTG?

Dear Thiago,

this is possible, depending on the network hardware you use. If all internet traffic goes through a particular port, you can just monitor that port and add a threshold trigger.

If you want to filter for IP range, or for ports used (like HTTP traffic over port 80 and 443), specialized sensors are required. If your switch is Flow capable, use a Flow sensor. As last resort, the packet-header sniffer sensor can be employed, but this requires a more complex setup, possibly a remote probe with two network cards.

An general overview is provided in this article.
