Executable for PDF rendering Is Missing

Votes:

0

Hello,

Since about 10 days the PDF reporting has returned an error. Beforehand and for almost a year the PDF reporting via mail worked flawlessly.

The error message I can see on the PRTG is:

"Executable for PDF rendering (C:\Program Files (x86)\PRTG Network Monitor\Sensor System\reporter.exe) is missing. Please check your installation!"

From my check the file referenced is not present in the PRTG computer files.

Can you send the executable and does it have other dependency files?

Thanks, Ofek

Hi,

The reason for this could be that your antivirus has deleted the file necessary for PDF reports. We've had a few reports of customers running the antivirus software by ESET where the reporter.exe was deleted, which leads to the described issue. Although this might happen when using other antivirus software or even Windows Defender as well.

To solve the issue one needs to make the necessary exceptions in the antivirus's settings and then re-run the PRTG installer to re-create the lost file. All your settings and monitoring data will be kept, only the program files are re-created. Below the step-by-step guide:

  1. Use services.msc to set the startup type of both the PRTG Core Service, as well as the PRTG Probe Service to manual start.
  2. Create an exception in the Anti Virus tool or/and the Windows Defender for the reporter.exe
  3. Reboot the PRTG Server to make sure no files are locked during the re-install
  4. Run the PRTG installer manually again
  5. Once the installation went through, make sure that the service startup type is now again set to "automatic" and started.

Kind regards.

Hello Marijan,

I followed the steps you had given, a fresh installation was put on the core computer. Everything was saved and PDF reports are now working flawlessly. Thanks for the support.

Thanks, Ofek
