Could not create the SNMP Traffic sensor on device

Hello, please I keep getting this error when trying to add SNMP-Traffic sensor to a switch

"The sensor does not get a response from the device you want to monitor. The reason might be that the SNMP credentials are wrong or that the device does not support the required uptime OID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0) for traffic sensors. To resolve this issue, check the SNMP access rights of the device or contact the device vendor. (code: PE244)"

Kindly help.

Please first check the following:

  1. SNMP configuration of the target device (SNMP version, community string or credentials, port) matches configuration of PRTG.
  2. Network connectivity between PRTG (Remote-/Local-)Probe and the target device.
  3. Firewall settings allow SNMP requests from the PRTG (Remote-/Local-)Probe.

Then please use our SNMP Tester to check if you can get a response from your device.

  1. Download and start the SNMP Tester on the PRTG (Remote-/Local-)Probe server, under which the target device is also configured.
  2. Configure the "SNMP Tester" to point at your device with the required SNMP settings.
  3. Select request type "Read Device Uptime" and start the test.
  4. Paste the output of the test-run here.

Kind regards.

Hi i have similar Issue regarding Fortigate FW for adding PRTG Sensor.See Details below

Error on PRTG

Sorry, the scan for available monitoring items has failed!

Could not create the SNMP Traffic sensor on device Fortigate 200E Firewall XX.XX.XX.XX

The sensor does not get a response from the device you want to monitor. The reason might be that the SNMP credentials are wrong or that the device does not support the required uptime OID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0) for traffic sensors. To resolve this issue, check the SNMP access rights of the device or contact the device vendor. (code: PE244)

Hi John,

Thank you for your message.

According to the result of SNMP Tester, it looks like there is a communication/configuration issue as it doesn't receive any data from the device. Therefore, I invite you to double check the 3 points mentioned by my colleague above (configuration, network and firewall).

You can check the packets received by using Wireshark on the probe server, with the following capture filter:

host IPDEVICE and port SNMPPORT

IPDEVICE and SNMPPORT must be replaced accordingly. Then, when executing SNMP requests (get-request) you should get get-response packets: Wireshark capture

Regards.
