Sending Notifications to Hangouts Chat using webhooks?

I have been trying to figure out how to send notifications to Hangouts Chat using webhooks -- Unfortunately it appears that there is almost zero documentation or previous cases of people trying it out on the web. It looks to me like Hangouts is expecting JSON based on the example here: https://developers.google.com/hangouts/chat/quickstart/incoming-bot-python but "Execute HTTP Action" under "Notification Templates" explicitly doesn't allow JSON in the payload field... has anyone figured out a decent workaround?

You'd need to use a PowerShell script pass the corresponding parameters, then call the webhook accordingly :)
