How do you best monitor your Windows VMs, WMI or vmware sensors?

Hi, Im struggling with how a should monitor my Windows VMs in vmware. I have my vcenter in PRTG with all my VMs and the metrics from there. But i also have my Windows VMs monitored via WMI. It feels like i am monitoring everything twice.

How do you guys think when your setting up monitoring on your windows VMs? Do you go all in with vmware sensors or do you only use WMI sensors?

Thanks Mattias

Hello Mattias,

it depends what you want to monitor. With the VMWare sensors, you monitor the status of the machine. With WMI, you monitor the status of Windows running on those machines.

I want to monitor basic things like cpu, ram, hdd space and network traffic. The vmware sensor can do some of those things it seems like but not all. I just wanted some idees to get my mind thinking in the right direction.
