How long before 'Unusual' becomes Normal?

Votes:

0

16th of April one of our Customers upgraded their Internet Connection from a temporary 4G Modem to Fiber.

Since then the status of the connection has been ''Unusual" as in "1 day interval average of 7 msec (Maximum) is unusually low for this weekday".

For brief periodes the status has changed to Normal just for the status to change back to Unusual a few minutes later.

It's now been 2 months since our Customer changed their Internet Connection: How long should we expect it will take for PRTG to recognize that the current response time Normal and not Unusual?

average ping unusual

Hello,

It depends on how much of a baseline PRTG formed using the 4G modem. What kind of speeds did they have with that 4G connection versus this fiber link? The simple answer is that once the fiber connection become the new normal, then the unusual should go away. Until then, PRTG still has a larger dataset of the 4G connectivity metrics to compare against.

Hi Benjamin

Sorry but your answer seems like a non-answer: "The simple answer is that once the fiber connection become the new normal, then the unusual should go away." Yeah, that's kind of obvious. BUT WHEN IS THAT?

And what does the speed have to do with the duration? If the speed of the fiber is 20 times faster than the speed of 4G will the fiber speed then be the new normal sooner or later than if the speed of the fiber is 50 times the speed of the 4G?

How much history did you have using the 4G connection? It will take at least that much time before the baseline adjusts in favor of the fiber. It's not volume that establishes the baseline, it's time.
