Hi,

On my system, every time PRTG updates, the installer requests a Windows reboot. I checked the installer log and found that it's complaining about the PRTG Server.exe. An example from the latest update is provided as follows:

2021-07-23 02:26:47.124 -- File entry --
2021-07-23 02:26:47.124 Dest filename: C:\Program Files (x86)\PRTG Network Monitor\64 bit\PRTG Server.exe
2021-07-23 02:26:47.125 Time stamp of our file: 2021-07-01 12:41:24.000
2021-07-23 02:26:47.125 Dest file exists.
2021-07-23 02:26:47.125 Time stamp of existing file: 2021-05-25 16:39:22.000
2021-07-23 02:26:47.125 Installing the file.
2021-07-23 02:26:47.721 The existing file appears to be in use (5). Retrying.
2021-07-23 02:26:48.722 The existing file appears to be in use (5). Retrying.
2021-07-23 02:26:49.724 The existing file appears to be in use (5). Retrying.
2021-07-23 02:26:50.725 The existing file appears to be in use (5). Retrying.
2021-07-23 02:26:51.726 The existing file appears to be in use (5). Will replace on restart.
2021-07-23 02:26:51.728 Leaving temporary file in place for now.

Isn't the whole goal of the auto-updater to replace the PRTG server components? Why is this file not closed automatically by the updater, and a reboot is requested every single time?

Thanks!

Hello,
The Auto-Update always restarts the PRTG core server service and PRTG probe service and might also indeed include a whole server restart. While this is not always necessary, it might be necessary sometimes in order to replace existing files. So during the installation, the PRTG core server might restart without notice witch cannot be changed I'm afraid.
