Newly installed Windows service not showing up (Windows service SNMP sensor)

Hello,

I have installed a new antivirus agent on a server. I now have 3 additional services running on the server for this program. When I add the 'Windows service SNMP' sensor, the new services do not show up and I'm not able to select and therefore monitor them. Strange thing is that I already monitor these services on other servers, and they showed up properly when adding the sensor... I have tried ti empty caches via the console (administration tools) without success. Is there a way to scan again the server to make these services show up?

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

I recommend to use the SNMP Tester to perform a Walk over the OID against the target Windows host (preferably from the Probe where you plan to add the sensor to)

1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1.2.3.1.1

Hi Thomas,

That's a good start. If you add the SNMP Windows Service Sensor manually, PRTG will do a meta-scan to list all possible metrics.

Are these three services part of the table you see on the GUI?

Could you please also share the results of the walk over the OID

1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1.2.3.1.3

with us when the meta scan does not include the missing services?

I'm afraid I don't understand precisely what you mean. If I add the SNMP Windows Service Sensor manually in the GUI, I don't see the services in the list and therefore I can't select them.

Thanks for sharing the results, I'm afraid that the Walk was performed against the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1.2.3.1.1 and not the 1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1.2.3.1.3.

Could you please also provide the results of this scan using 1.3.6.1.4.1.77.1.2.3.1.3?

Hello Thomas,

The results are complete I was able to create the sensor for the three sensors correctly. Can you please doublecheck that

  • the target address is correct
  • the same SNMP Community String is used
  • that the service is not hidden on a different page (like page 2 while creating the sensor)

Thanks for replying. I had already checked these points:

- Target address is correct
- SNMP community string is the same as on the server (read-only and accepting from any address)
- Services are not hidden on another page (I can't find them either searching by name of ordering list by name)

Could you please send a screenshot of the device settings including the Credentials for SNMP Devices, the target address as well as the SNMP Compatibility options to [email protected]?

Please refer to this case so that I can take over directly.

Next to this, kindly start a WireShark capture on the probe host and create a capture filter (not display) with

host 10.9.0.175

I just recognized that the tests are sent to the PRTG server itself, is that by intention?

I cannot explain the behavior yet, let's see if the screenshot yields more information.
