unable to get notifications email

I have installed PRTG monitor version 22 in my windows 10 Laptop. But I am unable to get notifications email regarding alert. I got error email sending " connection to SMTP relay server " mail.mydomain.com" failed. My email server is hosted in local exchange server. Can I have someone help me to get troubleshooting? This monitoring tool installation is my very first experience. Please kindly advise how is step by step procedure to add devices and sensors. Where can I learn about snmp protocols details. Thanks
