How can we build our own sensor ?

I tried to look for this basic questions but could not find anything that really helps. I really like PRTG Monitor system and I came up with an idea :

Let's say the company i work for has developped a software with many different components :

  • Some components are the core components which must be running for our software to work
  • Some components are processing transactions (e.g. 10 transactions / second).

My idea is to find a way that our customers can monitor our software using PRTG. Somehow, they could see :

  • the status of each of our components (like up & down)
  • monitor the transaction rate (something similar to the existing network component which shows the bandwidth usage)...

What would be required so this dream can become a reality ? Is there some "Generic Plugin" we could use and somehow connect to it and push the data onto it ?

Depending on the complexity of building this custom connector (we are a software company and we do have a few developpers around), which company can help up to outsource this piece of work ? Any adaptation required on our components will be done by our internal dev team only (we can't share our source code in anyway).

Hi there,

In PRTG you can use your own sensors with creating custom sensors. If you want to outsource this, I would recommend to contact one of our partners.
